Urban Family Practice, P.C.

Raul Vazquez was born in the South Bronx on January 12, 1963. Raul is in the eldest of three children; their mother raised him and his two brothers. Raul has very humble beginnings, but he always strived toward making a name for himself. He has wanted to become a doctor ever since he could remember. Raul recalls his family struggling through the relentless array of bureaucracy and substandard medical care allocated for socially and economically depressed people, whom did not speak the language very well. Specifically, Raul remembers his uncle receiving inadequate care because he failed to effectively convey his symptoms to the doctor. More often than not, Raul recalls mis-diagnosis, mis-treatment and improper prognoses due to poor translation.

Raul vowed to strive toward alleviating such discriminating practices that left patient untreated. Raul worked long and hard to become a reputable physician whom serves the needs of an underserved population. Despite insurmountable obstacles associated with poverty, public assistance, and single mother parenting, Raul rose above and graduated from South Bronx High School, and Fordham University. Raul was the first in his immediate or extended family to graduate from High School.

Upon completing his undergraduate career, Raul attended the Cornell University Science Program. The program prepared Raul for the vigorous tasks associated with medical school. At that time Raul applied to 11 medical schools and was accepted to 10. Raul set his sights on the University of Buffalo School of Medicine. Raul graduated in 1989 and attended Deaconess and Buffalo General Hospital Residency Programs.

Raul has sat on numerous boards of directors and has been an integral part of invaluable administrative teams, including Sheehan Memorial Hospital, Niagara Family Health Center, and the University of Buffalo associate professorship. Raul’s experience and leadership qualities enabled him to open his own private Family Practice on August 5, 1996. Urban Family Practice P.C. is a state of the art, fully computerized medical facility located in the heart of Buffalo’s Hispanic community.

Raul’s works side by side with his wife, of seven years, Toni. Raul and Toni have 3 children Raul Jr., Nadia, and Nina. Toni has an MBA and serves as the Office Manager. Urban Family Practice P.C. has a staff of 8 employees and services a patient population of approximately 6000.
