Raul Rodriguez, born and raised in East Harlem co-founded the East Harlem Council for Community Improvement (EHCCI) in 1979. He dedicated the next 25 years of his life to serve as the Executive Director of EHCCI, a multi-million dollar multi-faceted social services and community-development corporation. As Executive Director, Mr. Rodriguez has been responsible for the development of EHCCI’s mission, vision, strategic policy and planning, as well as negotiating and monitoring over 20 contracts annually for compliance and program quality.

Mr. Rodriguez early on realized the importance of a quality education and good work ethics, developing a fundamental correlation between employment and the resolution of housing, childcare and health related problems that can, unresolved, be devastating to a community. This foundation became the driving force and spirit of EHCCI.

In October 2003, the EHCCI Board of Directors voted to affiliate/merge with Promesa System Inc. Mr. Rodriguez believes that he can be a team player and bring his knowledge and experience to support the current mission of Promesa and the vision of the CEO, Mr. Medina, to establish and institutionalize a community-based organization into providing quality services in a professional and business like environment.

Attending Aviation High School in Queens, Mr. Rodriguez later received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1972, his Master of Arts Degree from Hunter College at the City University of New York in 1976 and in 1987 became a licensed Real Estate Broker. Believing in the value of continuously learning he is an active member and participant in the Columbia University’s Business School, Institute for Not-for-Profit Management, Executive Education Division.

Duly recognized by his colleagues and community alike, Mr. Rodriguez has received numerous awards. His honors include the Dr. Emeterio Betances Community Service Award from the Puerto Rican Day Parade Committee, the Congressman Charles Rangel Community Service Award, Dr. of Divinity Honoris Causa from the Academy of Ecumenical Indian Theology and Church Administration of India. NYC Schools Partners in Education Award, Gouveneur Parents Association Award, Youth Leadership Award from The NYC Youth Advisory Council, The Friendship, Support and Assistance Award from The Hispanic Society NYC Police Department and EHCCI’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

Mr. Rodriguez was also an elected Democratic State Committee Member for the 72nd Assembly District for three terms. Elected Democratic District Leader for Six terms and elected to Community School Board #4. He retired undefeated to pursue his career in social services without compromising his beliefs.
