Carlos D. Nazario, Jr.
Chairperson, Promesa Systems, Inc.

Carlos Nazario is currently Chairman and President of “Promesa Systems Inc.”. Under Mr. Nazario tenure Promesa has grown into one of the largest community based health care organizations in the country employing over 425 employees. Mr. Nazario helped establish Promesa Enterprises to stimulate economic development opportunities and for the continued creation of wealth for the community which Promesa represents.

After graduating from St. Francis College in Brooklyn with BS degree in business management, Mr. Nazario joined his father’s beverage distribution company as warehouse manager. He spent the next ten years learning all phases of the beer and beverage distribution business. Then, in 1985, he purchased the company from his father. Since then, he was President and CEO of Metro Beer and Soda Distributors, Inc. In 1990, he purchased, renovated, computerized and moved Metro into a 20,000 square foot modern facility serving the beverage needs of the small independent retailers and general public. In 1991 Metro was listed in the top 100 Hispanic-owned Companies in the U.S. by Hispanic Business Magazine. Mr. Nazario successfully sold his company and warehouse facility in March of 2000.

He was also founder and President of Palms on the Beach Ltd. Palms on the Beach was a foodservice corporation established to serve one of the largest beaches in the City of New York. Palms operated all of the concessions within this beach, with a seasonal attendance of over 1.5 million people. Palms operated this venue for a period of six years and did not renew its contract.

Mr. Nazario’s interests extend beyond his present and past responsibilities. He served four years as President of the Empire State Beer Distributors Association. Empire is an association consisting of 225 members in the State of New York. During his presidency, he successfully lobbied and legislation was passed, which permitted his members to sell cigarettes at retail to the general public.

He was Chairman of the Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation. BOEDC is the direct office for economic development of the Borough President of the Bronx. His responsibilities included, creating policy, as well as initiatives to coincide with the Borough President’s economic plans. As Chairman, BOEDC initiated and implemented the application to become the administrator for the Bronx Empowerment Zone. Mr. Nazario interfaced with business leaders and government officials.

Mr. Nazario was past President of the Board of Directors of Metro Federal Credit Union. He held this position for a period of three years. During his tenure, he developed policy to help small businesses become organized, competitive and structured. He was instrumental in passing federal legislation to permit Federal Credit Unions to accept federal food coupons as direct deposits in member accounts.
