Tom Kane

Thomas P. Kane was named President and General Manager of WABC-TV, the ABC owned television station in New York, on December 9, 1996. The appointment was effective January 6, 1997.

Mr. Kane, an executive with 25 years experience at ABC, has most recently been President and General Manager of WPVI-TV, the ABC owned television station in Philadelphia, since November 1993.

The promotion marks a return to WABC-TV for Mr. Kane, as he joined ABC, Inc., in 1975 as an account executive. In 1977, he moved to Detroit as an account executive for ABC Spot Sales (now ABC National Television Sales). In April 1978, he returned to the New York Spot Sales office, and in January 1979, he was promoted to Eastern Sales Manager there. He returned to WABC-TV in April 1982 as Sales Manager and was promoted to General Sales Manager, WABC-TV in March 1986.

Mr. Kane started his career at Dancer, Fitzgerald & Sample in 1969 in the media department, followed by positions at Timebuying Services, Inc. and MH Media, Inc. He moved into sales as an account executive at Edward Petry & Co. in April 1971 and held a succession of sales position through August 1975 at H.R. Television, Peters, Griffin & Woodward and Storer Television Sales, Inc.

While in Philadelphia, Mr. Kane was a board member of the Citizens Crime Commission, the Convention and Visitors Bureau and was active with the Police Athletic League.

A native of New York, Mr. Kane served in Vietnam in the U.S. Army in 1967-68. He and his wife Judith have three grown children and live in the New York area.
