Women Outpatient Services

Our treatment philosophy is based on the disease concept of addiction, integrating 12-step programs into a vibrant therapeutic milieu. The program also takes a family-systemic approach to treatment.

The staff is composed of a multidisciplinary team of clinical social workers, credentialed alcoholism and substance abuse counselors, psychotherapists, and psychiatrists.

Given the cultural background of many of our clients, bi-lingual services in Spanish are available.

Clients presenting symptoms of addictive usage are given a comprehensive evaluation of their biological, psychological, and social functioning.

Once cessation of addictive substances and stabilization is determined, patients enter Phase I of treatment focusing on early recovery tasks. This phase typically lasts 3 months, during which patients attend a combination of didactic educational groups, process therapy groups, individual therapy and 12-Step self-help groups. This therapy is combined with collateral contact with their families, often resulting in referral to our Family Education Series, a 6-week educational support group.

Phase II, offers treatment focusing on relapse prevention tasks, the self-in-relation model of women’s psychological development, and healthy parenting strategies in recovery. This phase, which typically lasts 8 months, employs cognitive-behavioral strategies. Patients attend a combination of didactic educational groups, process therapy groups, individual therapy, and 12-Step self-help groups, with a focus on the analysis of past treatment and relapse episodes if applicable, the determination of individual and familial relapse risk factors, and the development of specific relapse prevention and early intervention management strategies.

After patients successfully complete Phase II, we offer an optional Phase III consisting of clinical services with specialized therapy groups focusing on issues of Adult Children of Alcoholics/Substance Abusers (ACOA/SA), advanced sobriety, and individual and family therapy with a focus on characterological disorders.

For adult significant others and members of alcoholic or addicted family systems, we offer a Significant Other program for adults, which typically can include group therapy regarding co-dependency and ACOA/SA issues, as well as individual and family therapy.

For younger children and adolescents of alcoholic/addicted families, we offer individual verbal and activity/play therapy, as well as supportive family services.

Aside from the primary treatment of addictive disorders and family systems issues, we provide comprehensive psychiatric services for concurrent disorders.

On-site psychiatric services focuses on mental status evaluation, pharmacological intervention, and medication management. They are available for both our primary addicted patient and significant other patient populations.

On-site primary medical services with a staff of licensed internists, family practitioners, nurse practitioners, HIV testing and counseling services are also provided.
