Drug Free Ambulatory Substance Abuse Treatment Program The Drug Free Ambulatory Substance Abuse Treatment Program is a medically supervised program providing services to males and females from the ages of 18 and older. Operated by a bilingual staff, the program offers a safe and nurturing environment where substance abusers/addicts benefit from diverse services that addresses the complex problem of chemical dependence and abuse. Promesa's services include individual and group counseling, psychiatric services, primary health care (including HIV counseling, testing and AIDS treatment therapies), and vocational counseling and training. Under Promesa's care, each client receives individual and group counseling in combination with other services. Admission to Promesa requires an initial interview in which the clients abuse and psychosocial history is assessed and documented. Following the initial assessment, a client undergoes a physical examination, conducted by the health care unit, to determine whether he/she is a candidate for the intensive program. Upon admission to the program, the client is assigned a Primary Counselor who will schedule individual and group counseling sessions and work together with the client to develop a customized treatment plan. The counseling sessions are an important part of each clients treatment. Groups are structured in three phases: I. Early Recovery, II. Middle Recovery, and III. Advanced Recovery. Session topics include: Education on Drugs and Alcohol, Identification of Usage Triggers, Anger Management, Coping Strategies, HIV/AIDS, STD's and Sexual Responsibility and Relapse Prevention. Individual sessions are held concurrently. Phase I requires weekly individual sessions; Phase II requires 2 sessions per month; and Phase III requires 1 individual session per month. Random testing is an integral component of the program and all participants are expected to submit to the supervised collection of urine samples. Completion of the program can vary from 1 year and up depending on the client's needs and progress.
